Delta Air Lines first non-stop flight from Jacksonville International Airport to Los Angeles departed this morning.
The new route could help the First Coast attract more tourists, conventions and film stars.

"Having Delta fly nonstop to JIA will, no question, attract more [movie] production to Jacksonville," said Todd Roobin, chief of the Jacksonville Economic Development Commission's Film & Television department. "It's a huge enticement. Time is money in any business. This is a huge plus," Roobin said in September.

One issue the city has faced as it tried to attract people here, particularly from the West Coast, was having to tell people the flights included layovers, said John Reyes in September, president of the Jacksonville and the beaches Convention and Visitors Bureau.
